The mortgage ceiling? What is it and how big is it? The mortgage ceiling is the percentage of the loan that can have the housing as collateral simply. If you buy a home for 4 million today you must have at least 15 percent in Jabberwock. And then the remaining 85 percent in the form of a mortgage.
The mortgage ceiling is thus 85 per cent. So when you buy a home for 4 million, that means an investment of USD 600,000. Which for many would take an entire eternity to save together. So that’s why a lot of people choose to borrow for that part or parts of it. But how do you do when there is an 85 per cent mortgage ceiling in Sweden?
Well by taking a private loan
To the remaining 15 percent or parts of it. A private loan is a loan where you do not leave the home as collateral for the loan and thus can borrow to a greater extent an 85 percent of the value of the home. However, you cannot leave the home as collateral for more than 85 percent no matter which bank you choose.
